Nominated by Garlinge Primary School & Nursery
I pass Garlinge Primary School & Nursery on Westfield Road and I keep looking at that roof. It is a proper local school, with a nursery alongside, sitting in Margate where families already know the gates, the pavement and the morning rush. Energy bills do not stay in a spreadsheet. They show up as harder choices for a place that should be spending on children, not on every unit it can avoid. I am not claiming a magic saving, and I will not invent one. I am saying a busy school roof, in use through the day, is a fair candidate for funded solar. Panels there would generate power where it is needed, on a building the neighbourhood already trusts. If Mo's Solar Mission is choosing real roofs, this one in CT9 5PA deserves a proper hearing. Please vote and boost Garlinge. It is our school, on our street, and the case is simple enough to say out loud.

Garlinge Primary School & Nursery sits on Westfield Road in Margate, CT9 5PA, where it is part of the ordinary rhythm of the neighbourhood. Parents, carers and children pass the gates each day, and the building is a familiar landmark rather than a distant campus. A primary school and nursery holds a community together: early years, classroom life, and the after-school bustle that spills onto the surrounding streets. Roofs like this are used hard, year after year, in all weathers. Backing solar here is a vote for a real local place, not an abstract project. Neighbours who know Westfield Road already understand why this school matters, and why a working roof should be put to better use.
Schools use electricity all day: lights, IT, kitchens, heating controls and the small loads that keep a nursery and primary running. When unit prices rise, that bill competes with books, trips and staff time. Solar on a suitable roof generates electricity on site during the school day, when the building is most likely to be in use, so more of what is produced can be used directly rather than bought from the grid. That does not wipe out the bill, and nobody should treat the saving as a fixed figure without a proper survey. It does mean a share of daytime power can come from the roof itself. That can ease pressure on the school budget.
If you live near Garlinge, you can help this nomination along on Mo's Solar Mission. Open the Solar Mission page, find Garlinge Primary School & Nursery, and cast your vote so the school is visible among the roofs neighbours want funded. A boost is a further show of support: share the nomination with people on Westfield Road and across Margate, and ask them to vote too. Local voices count because this is a real school, not a made-up case. You do not need to be an energy expert. You only need to say, plainly, that this roof should be in the running. The more neighbours who vote and boost, the clearer the local case for funded solar.
