Noak has raised EUR5 million to develop perovskite-silicon tandem solar. What the European spinout means for UK buyers, and what remains unproven.

Published 5 November 2026. EnergyVille's primary announcement is dated 29 October; the radar file is a later research snapshot.
Noak, a spinout of imec and Hasselt University within EnergyVille, has raised EUR5 million to develop perovskite-silicon tandem solar towards industrial production. It is a company-development milestone, rather than the launch of a panel UK households can order.
For buyers following higher-efficiency solar, distinguish a promising cell architecture from a finished module with a price, certification and warranty.
EnergyVille's 29 October announcement identifies seed funding from Helios Foundation, Nuhma and V2HFin. Development will use existing facilities in Genk while preparing for manufacturing partnerships.
It describes research experience including five years of outdoor operation across more than ten sites. It does not publish a specific commercial module's dimensions, certified efficiency, degradation curve or warranty. The technology's potential efficiency range cannot substitute for those product results.
A tandem combines light-absorbing materials to use different parts of sunlight within a device. The attraction for a roof is more generating capacity in limited space, provided the complete module performs reliably.
A roof system is bought for years of operation through changing weather and temperature. Efficiency measured under controlled conditions answers only part of that purchase question.
Outdoor tests can reveal behaviour laboratory tests miss. To assess their value, buyers still need details about device construction, sample numbers, conditions and what changed over time.
Production control also matters. A strong result from selected research devices differs from consistent factory output. Useful next milestones include specified modules, independent tests, manufacturing plans and commercial support.
If roof space is tight, compare current quotes using the same usable area and a realistic layout. Check dimensions, shading, expected output, installed cost and warranty support. Keep future potential separate from equipment actually supplied under the quote.
If you can wait, a watch list is more useful than speculative payback. Record whether each milestone concerns a cell, mini-module, full module or production line. Research and fundraising announcements should not be mistaken for successive product launches.
Look for named manufacturing partners, a specified product, independent performance results and a route to long-term support. Funding advances the industrialisation effort, but those further steps will determine what it offers a UK customer.
