Octopus Energy has launched a variable version of Intelligent Octopus Go with no exit fees. Night rate 6.5p/kWh, day rates 0.02p to 1.51p/kWh below the 12-month fixed, with the same standing charges, region by region.
Octopus Energy has launched a variable version of its Intelligent Octopus Go EV tariff. The new product (code IOG-SMB-VAR-26-10-29) has been available since 29 October 2026 in all 14 GB regions, with no fixed term and no exit fees, according to the Octopus Energy API. It is aimed at Octopus domestic customers with a smart meter and a compatible electric car or charger who would rather not lock in for 12 months. Compared with the 12-month fixed version released on 27 October, the night rate is lower at 6.5p/kWh (fixed: 7.9p/kWh) and day rates are 0.02p to 1.51p/kWh lower, depending on region. Standing charges are the same on both.
Direct debit monthly, including VAT. Night rate in every region: 6.5p/kWh variable, 7.9p/kWh fixed. Source: Octopus Energy API tariff endpoints, checked 29 October 2026. Differences are calculated from the rounded rates shown.
The VAT included in these prices is currently 0%. HMRC's VAT Notice 701/19 says a temporary zero rate applies to domestic electricity in Great Britain from 1 October 2026 to 30 June 2027, after it was extended at Budget 2026. Northern Ireland stays at 5%.
The choice between the variable and 12-month fixed Intelligent Octopus Go products is about price risk and exit terms, not a different off-peak window.
This uses London rates and assumes 2,000 kWh a year at night and 2,500 kWh a year at the day rate. Your usage will differ.
